Questions
Before you book
Do I sign the document before I arrive?
No. Leave signature lines empty until we meet, unless I tell you otherwise. For a jurat you must sign in front of me.
What if I do not know which type of notarization I need?
The document or the agency that asked for it should say. California notaries cannot choose for you, because that would be legal advice. If the paper has no notary wording, I will ask you which certificate you want, and I can show you the two standard options.
Can you notarize in another language?
Yes, if I can communicate with the signer directly without an interpreter. The notary certificate itself must be in a language I can read.
Do you notarize wills?
I can notarize a signature on a will or a self-proving statement. The witness rules for wills are set by law and are separate from notarization. Please ask an attorney if you are unsure.
Can you come to my home or office?
No. I am not a mobile notary. All appointments are at my location in Sunnyvale.
What if I need to cancel?
Please give at least two hours notice so I can offer the time to someone else.

1. Who we are
Sunnyvale Notary (“we”, “us”) is a commissioned California notary public based in Sunnyvale, California. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and in the course of our notary services, how we use it, and the rights California law gives you. It is also our Notice at Collection under the California Consumer Privacy Act.
2. This website
This website is a simple static site. It has no user accounts, no contact forms that send us data, no analytics, and no advertising or tracking tools, and we do not set cookies. Our web host may keep standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, for security and reliability. We do not use those logs to identify you.
The “Book an appointment” button opens a scheduling page run by a third-party service. When you use it, that service collects the information you enter, such as your name, email, phone number and appointment details, under its own privacy policy. We receive that information so we can serve you.
3. Information we collect
When you book, call, email or visit us, we may collect the following.
| Category | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Identifiers and contact details | Name, phone, email, address | Schedule and confirm appointments, reply to you |
| Government ID details (sensitive) | ID type, ID number, issue and expiration dates, as shown on the ID you present | Verify identity and keep the journal California requires |
| Notarial records | Date, time, type of notarial act, document title or type, your signature, thumbprint where the law requires it, fee charged | Complete the notarization and keep the journal required by law |
| Commercial information | Services requested, fee charged | Provide and record services |
| Documents you give us | The document being notarized | Perform the notarization and return it to you |
4. How we use information
- To schedule and perform notarizations.
- To meet California notary law, including identity verification and journal keeping.
- To keep business and tax records.
- To respond to your questions and requests.
- To protect against fraud and comply with legal obligations.
We use sensitive information, such as ID details, only to provide the notary service you asked for and to meet legal requirements, and not to infer characteristics about you.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have not done so in the past 12 months. We disclose information only as follows:
- Service providers that help us run the business, such as scheduling, email and phone services.
- Government and the public as the law provides. California law allows the Secretary of State, courts and law enforcement to inspect a notary journal, and allows a member of the public to request a copy of a specific journal entry when they supply the required details. Any such copy must exclude information the law protects.
- Legal and safety reasons, such as a valid subpoena or court order.
6. How long we keep it
California requires notaries to keep their journal for at least ten years, so journal entries are kept for that time even if you ask us to delete them. We do not keep copies of the documents you sign or of your ID unless you ask us to or the law requires it. Scheduling records are kept as long as needed for business, tax and legal purposes.
7. Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, disclose and sell or share, and request a copy.
- Delete personal information we collected from you, subject to legal exceptions such as the journal retention rule above.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell or share it, so there is nothing to opt out of.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We use it only for the purposes listed in section 4.
- Not be treated differently for exercising these rights.
To make a request, email or call us using the contact details below. We will verify your identity by matching the information you give us to our records, and we aim to respond within 45 days. You may use an authorized agent to make a request for you, and we may ask for written proof of their authority.
8. Do Not Track and California Online Privacy Protection Act
This website does not track visitors across other sites or over time, so it responds the same way whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal. Links on this site may lead to other websites, such as our scheduling provider. They have their own privacy practices that we do not control.
9. Shine the Light
Under California Civil Code section 1798.83, California residents may ask which categories of personal information a business has disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing.
10. Children
This website is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information through the site. A minor may appear before us only as part of a transaction arranged by a parent or guardian.
11. Security
We keep our journal and any electronic files in locked or access-controlled storage and share documents only with the people involved in your transaction. No method of storage or transfer is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The effective date at the top shows when it last changed, and we will post the current version on this page.
